Business Portal User not showing up

An old employee came back to work at the same company and he has the same employee ID that he had before, and he was already in BP but it is not letting him log in.

It says he is signed in, and that is his correct name and everything but then it gives an access denied.

We deleted that user from BP and then added him back using the domain\user id. Then re-associated his roles and permissions that were under his old account.

After trying again, it still says he is currently logged in as domain\User ID and then it says ''Error: access denied''.

Checked in MBFuser table and he is not in there.  What do we need to do to resolve this?

Really thought removing him completely and re-adding him would have done the trick.

Why does Business Portal have to be so counter-intuitive?!?
